The general format for the world competition was changed for this tournament with 2 important events: The U18 International Development Festival (Under-18) and the 2023 World Ringette Championships which will have a President's Pool for developing ringette nations, U21 Pool, and a separate Senior program.[1]
Overview
U18 International Development Festival
Canada will host its first-ever U-18 International Development Festival, featuring athletes from multiple countries. The event will conclude with an international intersquad game, as well as Canada Red and Canada White games against Finland.[1]
World Ringette Championships
The upcoming World Championship will consist of two pools and a senior program which operate differently from previous years.
President's Pool
The President's Pool will include the national ringette teams of Czechia, Sweden, and the USA.
The President's Pool competition is designed to help develop emerging ringette nations. This initiative is critical for expanding the reach of the sport and creating a more diverse and competitive landscape in international ringette. The President's Trophy is the prestigious award presented to the best team in this tournament and is considered one of the highest honours in the sport.
Junior U21 Pool
A separate Junior U-21 (Under 21) World Championship will be a pool featuring Team Canada U21 and Team Finland U21.
The Under 21 competition showcases the talented up-and-coming players in the sport and provides a platform for them to gain valuable experience and exposure. The Juuso Wahlsten Trophy is awarded to the winner in the tournament and is named after Finland's, Juhani "Juuso" Wahlsten, who introduced ringette to Finland in 1979, the first European country to develop the sport. This trophy serves as a testament to his passion for the sport and his impact on the ringette community.
Senior Program
During the 2023 World Championship, Ringette Canada's senior program will participate in two Red-White scrimmages. Additional information needed

After Andrea Ferguson's (aka "Ando") successful stint as a Canadian National Ringette Team athlete for five years, followed by playing for two seasons in Finland's SM Ringette league, she turned her attention to coaching.
