Agiri Festival
Agiri festival is a rich cultural heritage which is celebrated by the people of the Bille Kingdom, River State. It is a day where the Bille people exhibits hospitality.[1] It is an event at Bille Kingdom, Degema local government area, Rivers State where indigenes adorn themselves with stunning cultural regalia and troop out in masses.[2] Traditionally, visitors and security escorts are given George wrapper and other traditional attires to wrap themselves in during the festival that abolishes disease, promotes peace and unity.[3]
General Knowledge
Originally, the earlier migrators of Bille Kingdom were said to have migrated from Benin kingdom and settled in Rivers State, they saw and met people celebrating their various festivals and came into an understanding to keep and cherish this festival inorder to promote peace, unity and top of all, good health.[4] Though the festival was earlier celebrated annually, however, recently the festival celebrated by the people of Bille Kingdom agreed on celebrating this event in every four years due to its financial consumption.[5]
