Ali Al Numairy

Ali Al Numairy (1956 - March 7, 2013)[1] was the named Vice President of the Arab Medical Union, the World Vice President of International College of Surgeons, President ICS UAE Section President of Plastic Surgery Society – Emirates Medical Association. Director General and Head of Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery Dept. Gulf Specialty Hospital – Dubai and former Head of the burn injuries section at Rashid Hospital.

Ali Al-Numairy was born in 1956. He was the first specialist plastic and cosmetic surgeon in the United Arab Emirites.[2]

Establishing himself

Ali's fascination for medicine started at school. Age 14 he experienced the extraction of a tooth and it was necessary for him to take penicillin injections on a daily basis for a week atleast. Since then Ali was interested in learning more about surgical procedures, at home he arranged a personal surgical kit and started dissecting rabbits and hens.

Career

Ali Al Numairy graduated from the University of Cairo in 1979. He was first employed at the Department of Health & Medical Services, Dubai UAE. Between 1980-84 he worked at different hospitals in and around Lyon, France. Over there he continued his learnings while he actively studied maxillo-facial reconstruction techniques,microsurgery, transplantation and aesthetic surgery. Ali was back in UAE from France after he completed four consecutive years of intensive surgical training and medical practice. Upon his return Ali continued as a Registrar working for the Department of Health & Medical Services, Dubai UAE. In 1990 Ali was promoted to Consultant Plastic Surgeon and the Head of Plastic Surgery & Burn injuries unit affiliated to the Department of Health & Medical Services. He was named the founder and president of the Plastic Surgery Society of the Emirates Medical Association.

Death

Numairy had a fatal accident on 7 March 2013 around 9:35 pm. He was riding home on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. A vehicle driver, a suspect of driving on a red light, caused the fatal accident.[1] The ruler of Dubai paid condolences to his family.[1]
