Alyssa Fox

Fox is a Dallas, Texas native.[3] She aspired to be a professional singer as a young child, and was introduced to musical storytelling through Disney princesses.[4] Fox developed an admiration for live performance during her youth when she sang in her church's choir and acted in church and school musicals.[4] Her "discovery" of Wicked through its cast recording in her senior year of high school caused her to focus her future hopes on musical theater.[3][4] Fox moved to Oklahoma City for college, later dropping out with large amounts of student debt and having to work an hourly job in a mall.[4][5]

In 2008, Fox auditioned for a role as Elphaba on Broadway in an open cattle call.[5] After many subsequent callback auditions in both San Francisco and New York, she began work as an understudy for Eden Espinosa's Elphaba in San Francisco in 2010.[3] During her year in this role, she went onstage twice.[5]

Fox then moved to New York and again did hourly work until 2012, when she joined Wicked's national tour as a standby for Elphaba. In 2014, she assumed the tour's lead role.[5]

Fox worked as the standby for Elphaba on Broadway after the tour concluded. She remained in this role until 2023, with the exception of a two-year period (March 2018 to March 2020) during which she worked as the standby for Elsa in the Broadway production of Frozen.[3][5]

In March 2023, Fox took over the role of Elphaba on Broadway.[2]
