Anna Köppen

Anna Köppen (13 January 1881 – 5 October 1965 )  was a German photographer, and educator.

Life

From 1898 Köppen was a student, from 1900 an assistant in the Lette-Verein photography school, from 1913 instructor in photography. From 1915, she was head of the metallographic department of the photography school.[1] From 1945 to 1952, she was head of the technical vocational school.[2][3][4]

In 1905, the Lette-Verein received equipment for microphotography. Anna Köppen played a key role in the rapid development of another apprenticeship – metallography. Microscopy, spectrography, and X-rays used to study metals. Anna Köppen worked in companies during the holidays, initiated further training, solicited large companies to donate equipment for training, and worked on the ongoing development and updating of the curriculum.

In addition, she was an early aviator. In 1913, she took part in a flight competition in Johannisthal, where she took aerial photographs. Her report about this flight is preserved in the Lette-Verein archive.

Anna Köppen managed the reconstruction of the destroyed Technical Vocational School, after World War II until she retired in 1952.
