Babbar (Tribe)

Babbar (also spelled as Babur, Babar, Babbarzai and Babarani) is a Baloch[1][2] tribe which belongs to the Jat (جت) community of Northern Sindh and Makran. It is scattered across the Pakistani provinces of Sindh and Balochistan with a significant population in the Dera Ghazi Khan division of Punjab[3][4][5][6][7]

Background

The origin of this tribe is shrouded in mystery as it is always confused with the Babbar Khatri/Jat tribe. The confusion is because of same names. It is present as the numerically largest sub-tribe of Jamali tribe[8] in Naseerabad, Sibi and Jaffarabad districts of Balochistan and Jacobabad district of Sindh.[9] In Noshki, Kalat and Surab districts of Balochistan, it is also present as a sub-tribe of Brahui speaking Mirwani tribe.
