History

On June 18, 2022 the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) announced that TBL President David Magley, a former NBL Commissioner, will work alongside Audley Stephenson, the current National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) Commissioner in overseeing the growth of both leagues.[1]

For the 2021–22 season, the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) announced that they had agreed to inter-league series play with several teams from The Basketball League. The games played between the teams from the two leagues are included in their respective regular season standings for each league.[2]

On April 11, 2023, Dave Magley and announced the formation a new professional basketball league to begin on December 26, 2023. The league will consist of teams located in Canada and the United States.

The goal is to model the league after professional soccer and basketball leagues in Europe, with teams in the super league also playing teams in the TBL. [3][4]
