Battle

Sultan Izz-al-din had previously sent a vanguard force of 3,000 men under the command of Mubariz-ad-din Bahramshah to identify the Armenian army.[2] He himself besieged Keban Castle near Marash. However, the Armenian leaders made a sudden movement under the command of Baron Constantine and they escaped by burning the Seljuk catapults.[3] Thereupon, the Sultan lifted the siege and went to the Keban Plain. Capturing the Armenian troops, the Sultan, together with the support forces of Mubariz-ad-din, engaged in a field battle with Constantine and King Leo. Although it started with Armenian superiority, Sultan Izz-al-din used the Seljuk army in a pincer movement, and towards the evening, the Seljuk army managed to disperse the Armenian army.[4][5][6][7]

After the war, King Leo had to make a treaty and peace in favor of the Seljuks.[8]
