Bill Coplin

Background

Bill Coplin is an award-winning professor and advisor for over 65 years, who has committed his life to transforming high school and college education to serve the practical needs of students through skill development to succeed and do good. As a social innovator, he pioneered the Policy Studies major at the #1 rated Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University while training high school teachers to educate over 40,000 high school students on the same skills taught on campus. Author of some 116 publications and books.

In 1995, Coplin was one of the first three to be appointed the J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence [1] at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University. He brings his experience as a consultant to businesses, government and non-profit agencies to his mentees. In addition, Coplin has received grants from the Sloan Foundation, the Kellogg Foundation, and the National Science Foundation in support of his research and educational programs. He has advised thousands of undergraduates, and alumni. His popular Podcast, Coplin’s World provides college and career advice through interviews with successful alumni.

Coplin founded the Policy Studies major for the purposes of supporting students in their skill development to do well professionally and to do good as an active citizen. The major is completed through coursework from throughout the university. Student will acquire skills in report writing, problem-solving, information gathering, computer applications, quantitative analysis, and working in teams as you study major public policy issues.
