Career
His career began in 1941, whilst fighting in the Second World War. MacDonald was nicknamed "The Scissors King".[1] One of his most iconic matches was in March 1945, against Bert Assirati in Dundee, Scotland.[1]
In early 1963, Bill mysteriously disappeared from the public eye. It was revealed soon after that it was due to him battling from a bad case of Pneumonia.[1] By the time he returned in August 1963, he had lost a significant amount of weight.[1] In early 1964, MacDonald announced that he was forced to retire from wrestling, after his doctor advised him to run his Antique shop full-time, due to severe health scares.[1]
Personal life and death
He was the father of actor Kenneth MacDonald (1950-2001).[2] Kenneth was most famous for playing the role of Mike Fisher in the British sitcom Only Fools and Horses (1981-2003).[3]
He died on 27 July 1964 from a short illness.[1] Wrestler Eddie Rose announced his death in September 1964, stating:
As a wrestler he was always held in high regard by his colleagues, recognised as a man of intelligence, of character, and the possessor of a fine sense of humour, a fine man, a man we can ill-afford to lose.
