Brooklyn 45

Brooklyn 45 is a 2023 American real-time supernatural thriller film written and directed by Ted Geoghegan about a group of military veterans holding an impromptu séance in the parlor of a Brooklyn brownstone at the close of World War II. Geoghegan penned the screenplay with assistance from his late father, a disabled Air Force Veteran-turned-history teacher.[2]

Plot

On the evening of December 27, 1945, four lifelong friends (Anne Ramsay, Ron E. Rains, Jeremy Holm, and Ezra Buzzington) gather for cocktails at the home of their friend and colleague (Larry Fessenden), who is mourning the recent suicide of his wife. After coercing them into an impromptu séance, the group connects with a supernatural presence, discovers that they do not know each other as well as they believed, and are confronted with an unexpected guest (Kristina Klebe) who may or may not be hiding a secret of her own.

Release

Brooklyn 45 had its World Premiere at South by Southwest on March 12, 2023.[5] It is scheduled to be released on the AMC Networks streaming service Shudder in early Summer, 2023.[6]

Reception

Brooklyn 45 was positively received at its World Premiere.[7][8] Bloody Disgusting called the cast "tremendous"[9] while Screen Anarchy called it "a stunning film that is sure to win over fans who go in with open minds."[10]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 91% of 22 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.1/10.[11] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 74 out of 100, based on four critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[12]
