Life and career

Early life and Gabriella Vixen

Gabriella Bishop[1] was born in Orpington.[2] Her early work was released under the name Gabriella Vixen, a name given to her by a friend.[1] As Vixen, she released "Keep Your Love On Me" (with Freedo) on 22 September 2017;[3] she had originally come to Freedo's attention after demonstrating a track intended for Rita Ora.[4] She then released "Golden" on 26 February 2018,[5] a love song about self-worth,[6] and on 20 April 2018, she released "Maybe",[5] which described relationship problems.[7] On 20 September 2018, she released "Old Mistake",[5] a warning against reuniting with ex-partners,[8] and on 14 February 2019, she released "Fool",[5] a song about showing strength after a breakup.[9] On 20 March 2019, she featured on the album track "Wait for You" from Talos' EP "Iridescent" ft. Coops,[10] and on 3 May 2019, she released "Wave" (with Jay Wilcox and MAFRO).[11]

Bishop then changed her stage name to bshp, as she wanted a fresh start,[1] and released "bshp" on 17 January 2020, which contained covers of Passionfruit by Drake and I'm Kissing You by Des'ree;[12] the latter was one of seven covers of songs she loved, had always wanted to cover, and did cover in that one session,[1] and appeared on the 30 January 2020 broadcast of Love Island,[13] which led her to be signed to Island Records.[1] "Passionfruit" would later feature on the 4 August 2021 broadcast of the following series.[13] On 22 January 2021, she released "Never Mind",[12] a song about a guilty pleasure romance;[1] an acoustic version would also be used on Love Island on 10 July 2022.[13] On 19 March 2021, she released "Solid Gold", a collaboration with Disciples, and on 7 May 2021, she released Every Song, a collaboration with Duvall[12] from Disciples. In 2021, she left Island Records,[2] and on 9 December 2021, she released a solo single, STFU,[12] a song about reclaiming power after a bad relationship.[14]

On 11 March 2022, SABYNA, Lucie Silvas, Anna Rose, Twinnie-Lee Moore, Louisa Johnson, PLANT, Tigirlily Gold, Corrina, Wendy Moten, Julia Cole, bshp, Bianca Rose, Kelsey Gill, Parker McKay, Alyssa Bonagura, Summer Overstreet, Victoria Bigelow, Kelleigh Bannen, and Shelly Fairchild all featured on I Know A Woman's "I Know A Woman",[15] a charity release designed to raise money for the MusiCares Foundation.[16] On 3 February 2023, she and Issey Cross were featured on Nathan Dawe and Bru-C's "Oh Baby", which charted at No. 35 on the UK Singles Chart.[17] In March 2023, she performed at Colours in Hoxton as part of a Loud LDN event.[18]
