Career
2019/20
Sexton won back to back AMA Supercross 250cc East Championships for Geico Honda in 2019 and 2020.[5]
2021
2021 was Chase’s full debut season in the 450cc class as he competed in 450cc motocross in 2020.
In supercross he suffered an injury at round 2 which put him out until the 9th round where he finished 8th. [6] In the final 5 rounds of the season, he managed 3 podiums and his highest finish was 2nd place. He placed 12th overall for the season
In motocross, chase won 1 overall at Washougal but missed the last 2 rounds which placed him 5th in the final standings.
2022
In 2022, Sexton gained his first premier class victory in San Diego in round 3 of the 2022 AMA Supercross Championship.[7] In AMA Motocross, Sexton battled multi-time champion Eli Tomac until the very last round, narrowly missing out on his first premier 450cc class title by 7 points.
He was also a member of the USA MXON team alongside Eli Tomac & Justin Cooper in 2022, where they finished 1st place.
2023
Before the 2023 season, Sexton was one of the favorites to win the 450cc Monster Energy Supercross Championship. He showcased his speed throughout the season. According to sports announcer Dan Hubbard, this year he was the fastest in qualifying 14 out of 17 times, won the most heats, and most main events, but made 7 mistakes that cost him 35 points from winning positions.
He won rounds 3 & 10 and started to find his rhythm. From round 10 onwards Sexton won 2 more races. At round 16 in Denver he was 18 points behind leader Eli Tomac in the points standings, when Tomac made an error which ruptured his Achilles tendon. Chase capitalized on this and scored the win which put him with a 7 point lead over Tomac and 26 points over the next racer going into the 17th and final round at Salt Lake City. Although mathematically the winner of the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450cc Champion at that time, Sexton and Team Honda HRC decided that out of respect for the injured Tomac, they would wait to claim the title at the next race in Salt Lake City.[8]
