History

Datameer was founded in Halle, Germany 2009 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.[5] It is a privately held company.[6]

The company name is a portmanteau of 'data' and 'meer', the German word for 'sea'.[7]

In 2018, Datameer partnered with IBM to create, manage and deploy business data pipelines for IBM's new data science and machine learning platform, Cloud Private for Data.[8][9]

In December 2022, Datameer announced a partnership deal with the cloud-based data-warehousing software company, Snowflake.[10]

Funding

In 2009, Datameer raised $2.5 million in a series A funding round led by Redpoint Ventures.[11] In 2011, Datameer raised $9.25 million in a series B funding round led by Kleiner Perkins.[5] In 2012, Datameer raised $6 million in a series C funding round led by Next World Capital. In 2013, Datameer raised $19 million in a series D funding round led by Next World Capital, with participation from other investors.[12]

In 2015, Datameer raised $40 million in a series E funding round led by ST Telemedia, with participation from other investors.[13][14]

Awards and recognition

Datameer was named to the Red Herring Top 100 North America list in 2014.[15] Datameer has been included in the CRN Big Data 100 list multiple times.[16][17] In 2021, Datameer was named to the DBTA 100, a list of the most important companies in data management and analysis.[18]
