Downing (surname)
Downing is an Irish surname. In Ireland it is anglicised from the Gaelic Ó Duinnín 'descendant of Duinnín' (a diminutive of donn 'dark, brown'), a Munster family who were hereditary historians to the MacCarthy Mór.[1] A variant of Dineen, the name is prevalent in County Cork and County Kerry.[2][3]
