Biography
Evghenia Guțul was born on 5 September 1986 in the village of Etulia, in the Moldavian SSR, Soviet Union.[3]
Candidate for governor of Gagauzia
On 22 March 2023, the Guțul was selected as the Șor Party candidate for governor of Gagauzia. The electoral campaign was carried out under the slogan "Găgăuzia - plai de vis". In the elections of 30 April 2023, she finished first place with 14,890 votes (26.47%), but given the fact that a majority was not met, the second round took place on 14 May. In the afformentioned second round, Guțul obtained 27,376 of the votes (52.39% - preliminary), thus winning a 4-year mandate at the head of the autonomous unit.[4][5] During the election campaign, Guțul promised that if she is elected, she will build an airport worth 100 million euros, she will increase the salaries of budget workers by 30%, she will build an amusement park, there will be investments in infrastructure, education, etc., which in the opinion of journalists, many of the promises would be unrealizable, given the fact that they exceed the attributions of the governor.[4] She was supported in the elections by oligarch Ilan Șor (chairman of the Șor Party), deputies Marina Tauber and Reghina Apostolova, as well as several Russian performers and artists, such as Nikolay Baskov, Philipp Kirkorov, Stas Mikhailov, Aleksandr Lisovsky, Polina Malashenok and others.[4]
Guțul is set to assume the position of governor on 19 July.[6]
Political views
Immediately after winning the gubernatorial elections in Gagauzia, Guțul announced that she wanted to be closer to Russia, saying that the Șor Party was pro-Russian.[5]
Personal life
Guțul is married and has two children. She lives in her native village, Etulia.[3]
