Early life

Robertson graduated from The McCallie School in 1976, from Yale in 1980, and afterward from his father's alma mater, Washington and Lee University ("W&L"), with a Juris Doctor degree. Following his graduation from W&L, Robertson practiced law in Norfolk, Virginia, for 10 years. On a short-term mission trip to India, he believes "[God] opened [his] heart to the plight of millions of unreached souls."[1] He responded by leaving his law firm and moving to the Philippines.[1]

In 1988, Robertson and his father, along with Dick Weinhold of the Texas Robertson campaign and Billy McCormack, a Southern Baptist pastor in Shreveport, Louisiana, were named the four directors of the newly organized Christian Coalition of America.[3]

Christian Broadcasting Network

Robertson officially joined his father's CBN in 1994, when the younger Robertson founded CBN Asia, Inc., which included a weekly television show, The 700 Club Asia, with the goal of closely replicating the aspects of the original 700 Club to include the culture of the Philippines.

Today, in addition to co-hosting The 700 Club, Robertson is an executive producer. He also serves on CBN's board of directors. Robertson was the executive producer of the 2016 docudrama Pocahontas: Dove of Peace.[4]

In 1995, Robertson had a near death experience when he contracted drug resistant cerebral malaria in a refugee camp on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Robertson went to the hospital after he began vomiting blood. A Filipino pastor, Joey Bonifacio, came to pray for him in the hospital. Days later, Robertson heard an audible voice telling him, “Get up, get to work, for I have healed you.” Robertson got up and went to the CBN Asia office to work. He then went back to the hospital’s attending physician, Dr. Rodrigo Romulo, who confirmed with a blood test that he had recovered from malaria. Dr. Romulo declared, “you should have died because we caught this too late, but now I can’t find any malarial parasites in your blood.”[5][6][7]

The 700 Club

Gordon returned to the United States in April 1999 to co-host the original 700 Club and, more recently, The 700 Club Interactive program which is seen on Freeform and online.[1] Robertson was made full-time host of The 700 Club on October 1, 2021, when Pat announced on the show that he was stepping down.[8][9][10] This was on the date of the 60th anniversary of CBN’s first broadcast (Oct 1, 1961).[11] During his time at The 700 Club, Robertson has interviewed a variety of cultural figures, including Benjamin Netanyahu, Jimmy Carter, Senator George J. Mitchell (D), Senator Chris Coons (D), Senator Sam Brownback (R), Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon, and Ron DeSantis (R).

Superbook

Gordon is the Executive Producer for Superbook, a Bible-based animation series using CG technology. The series follows the adventures of two children, Chris and Joy, and their robot friend Gizmo, as they journey back in time to experience the stories and characters in the bible.[1]

Originally launched in Japan in 1981, CBN’s first Superbook series reached millions of viewers, prompting the Bible to become the best-selling book in Japan.[12][13] To date, the original series has been broadcast in over 106 countries, translated into 43 languages, and viewed by more than half-a-billon people.

Operation Blessing

Robertson began working with Operation Blessing International in 1995 as President and Founder of Operation Blessing Philippines.[14] He then founded Obor Berkat in Indonesia, Operation Blessing India, Operation Blessing Thailand, and Operation Blessing China.

In 2018, he became the President of Operation Blessing International, assuming the position after Bill Horan.[15][16] Under his leadership, Operation Blessing has continued to be a leader in food relief and disaster relief in the USA and internationally in providing water wells, livelihood programs, and special surgeries.[17][18][19]

Personal life

Robertson met Katharyn (née Banks) in 1988 and they married in 1989.[20] They live in Virginia and have three children and 1 grandchild.[1]

His grandfather, Absalom Willis Robertson, was a Democratic U.S. Senator from Virginia.[21]
