Harrison Collins

Harrison Collins (March 10, 1836 December 25, 1890) was an American soldier who received the Medal of Honor for valor during the American Civil War.

Biography

Collins served in the American Civil War in the 1st Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry for the Union Army. He received the Medal of Honor on February 24, 1865 for his actions at the Battle of Nashville. Harrison Collins was the first Tennessean to be awarded the Medal of Honor

He is interred at the Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.

Capture of flag of Chalmer's Division (C.S.A.).[1]

Collins saw the Confederate standard bearer, under the direction of a major, trying to rally his troops. Collins led a charge to kill the major, capture the flag and route the enemy. He chased the enemy all the way to the Tennessee River.
