Hilda Baci

Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci (born 20 September, 1995) is a Nigerian chef, restuaranter, actress and the current holder of Guinness World Record for marathon cooking.[2] In August 2021, she won the "Jollof Faceoff’ competition".[3]

Early life and career

Hilda is from Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, Nigeria.[4] She was born on 20 September, 1995.[5] She graduated with a degree in sociology from Madonna University, Okija.[6] She was the host for "Dine on A Budget" on Pop Central TV, Dstv Channel 189[7]


From the tender age of youth, Hilda‘s heart danced to the rhythm of culinary delights. Driven by an insatiable hunger to learn, she embarked on a culinary education journey, drawing inspiration from her mother, a culinary maestro in her own right. Her culinary prowess blossomed through her guidance and the nurturing warmth of the kitchen, adorning her with a unique flair that set her apart.

While her culinary passions burned bright, Hilda recognized the importance of holistic education and pursued a degree in Sociology from Madonna University. With her inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge, she embarked on a remarkable journey, embracing the depths of human society and culture and expanding her understanding of the world around her.

Yet, the allure of the culinary world remained ever-present, a magnetic force guiding Hilda Baci toward her true calling. Balancing her academic pursuits with her culinary aspirations, she transformed her love for cooking into a vibrant career, captivating palates and hearts alike.

Guinness World Record attempt

In March 2023, Hilda announced she would be attempting the record for the longest cooking marathon.[12] The record was previously held by Lata Tondon[13] whose cooking marathon lasted for 87 hours, 45 minutes in 2019.[14][15]

On 11 May, 2023, she started her record attempt titled "Cook-a-thon".[16][17] She broke the record on 15 May.[18]

On Monday May 15, 2023 at exactly 7:45 am, Hilda broke the record for longest cooking marathon by any individual hitting 87 hours 50 minutes- 5 minutes above the previous record holder in 2019.[19]

To set a new record of the longest cooking marathon, Hilda was originally set to cook for 96hrs, but later extended her goal to a 100 hours cooking marathon.[20][21]

High profile Nigerians who visited Hilda include, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Lead Pastor of Harvester International, Bolaji Idowu; Nigerian award-winning singer, Tiwa Savage, Tim Godfrey, Ice Prince.[22][23]

The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo also called to cheer Hilda up during the cookathon.[24] Hilda received huge support fan base from Nigerians who trooped to the venue of the cookathon while others keep trending her name on Social Media.
