Jangid
Jangid is a Hindu Brahmin surname of Rajasthan origin. Jangid also known as Jangid Brahmin is a subcaste of the Gaur (गौड़) Brahmins.They are descendant of Rishi Angira (one of the Saptrishi, human son of Lord Brahma). Nowadays, this surname is also used by Non Brahmin Vishwakarma caste people claiming theselves Brahmins.[1][2] Khatis and Gaur Brahmins who use Jangid as surname both are different community.[1]They have a notable presence in the states of Haryana, Rajasthan (63%) and Punjab and their traditional occupation was that of carpentry, especially woodcarving and furniture making. Today, the Jangid in Rajasthan are usually known for painting[3][4] and decorative works such as making seats or chariots for religious figurines.[5]
