Jerome Fernando (Prophet)

Jerome Fernando is a controversial Sri Lankan Evangelical Pastor and a preacher.

According to his website, he is the Senior Overseer of The Glorious Church in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The website mentions the church has a growing congregation of over thousands both locally and part of the Glorious Global Church. He describes himself as a "gifted Minister of the five-fold ministry, a prolific preacher of God’s undiluted word, an erudite teacher of deep revelations and a Prophet of God called to impact, inspire and influence the nations, through the integrity of the Word of God, confirmed by signs, wonders, miracles and prophetic exploits."[1]

Education

He graduated in his theological studies at the Asian Access School of Theology, which is affiliated with Gordon Cornwell University of Theology, USA.[1]

Other work

He is the Chancellor of Osborne University of Theology, UK, appointed by his Spiritual Father, Prophet Uebert Angel. Prophet Jerome is also a guest lecturer at London School of Theology, Associate Minister at Andrew Wommack Ministries and Charis Bible College, USA. He has authored many books and is a distinguished speaker and minister on many international platforms and was even featured on award-winning television network Daystar TV.[1]

Controversy

In a sermon recently preached by 'Prophet' Jerome Fernando in his church, in which he claimed that despite Lord Buddha claiming to be 'Enlightened', even Lord Buddha needed Jesus as Lord Buddha was not indeed 'enlightened'. This angered many people in the Buddhist majority country.[2]

On May 15, President Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch an immediate investigation into the controversial statement made by Pastor Jerome Fernando, in a manner that harms religious harmony.[3]

On May 16, Overseas travel ban was issued against Pastor Jerome Fernando who has left the country by that time.[4]

Later he posted a message on his Instagram page “Hello Family, As you are all aware , I’m presently traveling on pre scheduled official matters pertaining to the ministry and will be back home on Sunday” “Looking forward to Sri Lanka. Love you all. Be at the dome on Sunday 10am 1ST for MEGA CHURCH DAY with the entire TGC family” he added.[5]

Personal life

Prophet Jerome is married to Pastor Melanie Fernando and they are blessed with two daughters, Mikkela and Heavenya.[1]
