History

Framework for a new high school inside of Turlock, California would be created in 1979, when future predictions of development and population called for a solution to overcrowding.

A rising issue of overcrowding in the Turlock High School system in the 1990's would require an accelerated development of a new high school. In 1998, the Turlock community voted and passed a bond that would allow the development and construction of a new site. This site would be home to a new high school. John H. Pitman, an influential and important teacher and principle from Turlock High School, would be chosen as the name of the new high school, which would break ground in late 1997 and finish in the April of 2002.[3]

Gibson and Principal Rod Hollars individually greeted every new student to the campus. At the ceremony, Superintendent William H. Gibson indicated that "the facility was constructed under budget and well in advance of the scheduled opening of school."[3] The first class of John H. Pitman High School would start its first semester on August 26, 2002.
