Double Constituency:

The city of Kolar Gold Field has a clear demarcation of mining and non-mining towns. Majority of the population of the mining towns was the Adi-dravida community (Scheduled Caste/Tribes). The non-mining part comprised an admixture of many communities. The Constitution of India provides for special provisions for the upliftment of the downtrodden communities. Hence, political representation for the mining towns was reserved for SCS/STs and is still continuing as a Reserved Constituency. This arrangement automatically declares the non-mining towns as a General Constituency. K.G.F city thus became a double constituency during the earlier times in which the electorates were represented by two members. Later, owing to increase of the downtrodden community population, the entire K.G.F was given the status of a Reserved Constituency.
