Lauren Baker

Lauren Baker (born 1982) is a London-based, British contemporary multidisciplinary artist exploring metaphysics, symbolism, consciousness & sustainability.[2][3]

Early life

Baker was born in 1982 in Middlesborough, United Kingdom.[4][5] She studied at the Northumbria University in Newcastle.[6]

Career

Baker joined a mosaic street-art project based in Brazil led her to study mosaics in Venice.[7]

She created installations at notable and renowned galleries and museums such as Tate Modern, Tate Britain and The V&A.[8][9]

In February 2015, one of her works sold for £420,000 to an influential sheikh in Qatar.[7] It is a Steinway grand piano encrusted with half a million crystals.[10][11]

In 2017, she created a 7.5 meter neon across Surrey St bridge in London.[12] The public art project was commissioned by Croydon council.[13]

In late 2017, for one year, Lauren Baker had a pop up studio and gallery space in Covent Garden’s Floral Street.[14]

In September 2018, her collection ‘The Immensity of The Universe’ was released in Saatchi Gallery.[15]

In March 2020, sculptures - inspired by the frequency of the Sun and the Moon - both at 4 meters tall, were placed in a UNESCO Protected World Heritage site in a desert in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia.[16][17]

Philanthropy

Due to her passion for wildlife and conservation, she currently serves as an ambassador for Save Wild Tigers for whom she has raised over £50,000 for the cause via her artwork.[26]

Awards and recognition

In 2018, Baker was awarded ’Artist To Watch’ by Rise Art Prize, the exhibition was at the House of Vans, London.[27]
