Masc (band)

Masc (Korean: 마스크; stylized in all caps) was a South Korean boy band created by JJ Holic Entertainment in 2016.[1] Following several line-up changes, the group disbanded in 2020.[2] The group was briefly revived in 2023 when members Heejae and Ireah competed as Masc on the reality show Peak Time,[3] before announcing they would continue promotions under the new name, Sevenus.[4]

Career

Originally a four-member group consisting of Woosoo, Heejae, 26, and ACE, Masc debuted under JJ Holic Entertainment on August 19th, 2016 with the extended play Strange, including a lead single of the same name.[1] The group released its second single, "Tina", on February 4, 2017.[5]

With the release of Masc's third single, "Do It", on October 12, 2017, new members Ireah, Moonbong, Doeun, and Chibin joined the group.[6]

In July 2018, Chibin alleged that ACE had assaulted him, leading to both members leaving the group.[7][8] Soon after, member 26 left the group to focus on a career in film.[9] In October, the group announced it would resume activities with four members: Woosoo, Heejae, Ireah, and Moonbong.[10]

MASC released the single "Maschera" on May 27, 2019.[11] That year, the group toured South America in May and Europe in June and July.[12]

On October 18, 2020, the group announced their disbandment through a YouTube video.[13][2]

In February 2023, members Heejae and Ireah first appeared as a singing duo on the reality competition show Peak Time.[14] They revealed their group name as Masc during the show's final episode in April, and they ultimately came in second place.[3] In May, they signed to PCS Entertainment,[15] and announced they would promote under the new name, Sevenus.[4]
