Loreta Sungailienė

Loreta Sungailienė née Mukaitė (born 10 September 1977 Skuodas) is a host of events and TV shows, folklore singer and performer. She is an ethnomusicologist, nurturer of ethnic culture, and intangible cultural heritage specialist.

Life

She grew up in Skuodas. Her family moved to Palanga where she joined the folklore ensemble Mėguva, which won the national schoolchildren's competition Dainų dainelė.

She graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre with a bachelor's and master's degree in ethnomusicology.[1] In 2007, she defended her doctoral thesis. During her doctoral studies, Sungailienė did an internship at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and Vilnius College. During her studies, she was an active member of the Vilnius University folklore ensemble Ratilio.

In Vilnius, she formed the folklore ensemble Virvytė performing the folk music of Samogitians.[2] She is a senior specialist of the Ethnic Culture Department of the Lithuanian Folk Culture Center. She has led the folklore ensemble Šaltinis. She toured with the Lithuanian Trombone Project.[3]

She hosted the Lithuanian television shows "Duokim garo!",[4][5] "Kulinarinės kelionės", "Gero ūpo!", "Folkšokas", and was a judge on the 2nd season of the TV project "Chorus Wars". She played in the Lithuanian television film Aušros sūnūs (Sons of Dawn, directed by Bronius Morkevičius, 1998).

She gave presentations at regional and national conferences. She organized the recording of the phenomena of living traditions, and performers of folk songs.[6] She has published informational and methodological articles in the magazines Žemaičių žemė, Kūrybos metraštis, Laudies kultūra, Muzikos barai. She published scientific articles in the publications Lietuvos muzikologija (2002), Tiltai (2001). She is co-author of the book Kupole rože and compiler of the CD Kupole rože.
