MR-9: Do or Die

MR-9: Do or Die is an upcoming Bangladesh-United States joint spy action-thriller film directed by Bangladeshi origin American born director Asif Akbar. MR-9 refers to the code name of secret agent Masud Rana. This is adaptation of the popular Masud Rana novels written by late novelist Qazi Anwar Hussain which follows story of 1966 novel Dhongsho Pahar (Demolition Hill). It features ABM Sumon in the main leads with Frank Grillo in villain role and others.[2][3][4]

The film is adapted from the original first novel Masud Rana: Dhonghsho Pahar (Demolition Hill). Hussain published 550 novels published in the series, which is influenced by the James Bond franchise.[2]

Production

Pre-production

Bangladeshi production company Jaaz Multimedia, LA-based Al Bravo Films and MR-9 Films have joined forces to get the film into production. Producers are Al Bravo, Hemdee Kiwanuka, Colin Bates, Akbar, Philip Tan and Abdul Aziz with executive producers Niko Foster, Peter Nguyen, Eduard Osipov and Phillip B. Goldfine.[3]

Filming

The shooting for MR-9 was scheduled to begin in April 2021. The shootings for the film were delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis,[5] then again started in June 2022.[6] The movie is being shot at Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Dhaka.[7]

Music

Two-time Grammy Award-winning Indian composer and environmentalist Ricky Kej to compose the music for spy action-thriller MR-9 film.[8]

Release

MR-9 teaser released on 20 April 2023. MR-9 is expected to be released on Eid ul Adha 2023.[9] This film is set to premiere in the Cannes Film Festival.[10]
