Maai-mahiu is located in the Riftvalley Nakuru county. It has a great view point of the escarpment and Riftvalley in general, Mt Longonot is also seen though at a distance.

At the escarpment, Maai-mahiu has a great meandering road that was constructed by the Italians in the early 1900s. The road is a real marvel of traditional engineering. The road connects Nakuru county, Kiambu and Narok counties. Along the road there is a church that was constructed by the Italians in the same era, locals refer to it as "mskiti". There are also Curious shops that sell various traditional materials.

Maai-Mahiu has a train station as well as an inland container depot on the Nairobi–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway, which was inaugurated in October 2019.[1][2]
