Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation
Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation is the military intelligence agency of Malaysia Armed Forces.[1] Its role is said to be equivalent to the US Defense Intelligence Agency. MDIO is headed by an army lieutenant general and consists of tri services military branch such as army intelligence, naval intelligence and air force intelligence.

The MDIO was established in 1970 and is currently headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. It is composed of several units, including the Counter-Intelligence and Security Unit, the Military Intelligence and Operations Unit, and Technical Intelligence Unit.
In addition to its intelligence gathering and analysis functions, the MDIO also works closely with other government agencies to ensure the security of the country. This includes providing support to law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat terrorism and other forms of criminal activity. The MDIO also works with Malaysia's foreign partners, including the United States, Australia, and other countries, to share intelligence and coordinate efforts to address shared security concerns in the region.
History
The Malaysian Defense Intelligence Organization (MDIO), formerly known as the Defense Intelligence Staff Division (DISD), was established on 1 October 1981 to replace the Joint Intelligence Directorate (JID). Its main objective was to gather and produce intelligence products to counter the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) during the Second Malayan Emergency.
The Director General of MDIO is responsible for reporting to the Chief of Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence, and the National Security Division.[1] Currently, Lt. Gen. Dato' Paduka Abdul Hadi Haji Hussin holds the position.[2]
The Malaysian Defense Intelligence Organization (MDIO) was established through restructuring and expansion. On 23 September 2022, Chief of Defence Forces General Affendi Buang officially changed the name and logo of the Armed Forces Defence Intelligence Staff Division (DISD) to the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation. Organisation
The headquarters of the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation is located in Kuala Lumpur. It is responsible for the overall management and administration of the organization. The headquarters is headed by a Director-General.
There are three branches of MDIO with each branch is further divided into divisions. The divisions are responsible for specific areas of intelligence collection and analysis.[4]
