Marie-Aurélie Castel
Marie-Aurélie Castel (born 15 July 2000 Gouesnou) is a French international rugby union player. She plays as a centre or winger at Stade Rennes rugby.[1][2]
Career
Originally from Gouesnou, in Finistère,[3] she was born on July 15, 2000. She practiced classical dance,[4][5] before basketball and aikido.[3]
She started rugby at the age of 16, at the naval school in Brest, as part of the UNSS.[3] She then joined the Rugby club Plabennec. In March 2018, she joined the selection of the 100 best cadets in France9 for an internship at Marcoussis. That year, with the Association des femmes du pays de Brest, she was crowned France's youngest rugby sevens champion. In 2018, she decided to prepare a degree in “sport ergonomics and motor performance” at University of Rennes. She then signed with Stade Rennes Rugby.[4]
She was selected for the first time in the France U15 under-20 team,[6] she started against England on 9 March 2019, in Strasbourg (French victory, 31–12).[7] She started again against England on 17 March in Newbury, where she scored a try (French victory, 14–40).[8]
In early July 2019, with the French university rugby sevens team, she won a silver medal at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples13. At the end of July, with the French rugby sevens team, she won another silver medal, at the Seven's Grand Prix Series, in Ukraine.[9]
In 2019, she was called up to the group of the France senior rugby union team. On 16 November she had her first cap, as a substitute, against England,[10] but she did not enter the field (English victory, 17–15).[11] On 8 February 2021, she played as a substitute against Italy (French victory 45–10).[12] On 6 November, she started for the first time, on the left wing, against South Africa (French victory, 46–3).[13] On November 20, starting on the left wing against the Black Ferns of New Zealand, she scored two tries (French victory, 29–7).
At the 2022 Women's Six Nations Championship, she played against Italy.
