Personal life

Marina was born at Thatched House Lodge in Richmond Park, London, the home of her parents. She was named after her paternal grandmother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, who was also a first cousin of Prince Philip, the former Duke of Edinburgh.[2] She has an elder brother, James Ogilvy, who was born in 1964. She was baptised on 2 September 1966 at the Private Chapel at Kensington Palace by Arthur Michael Ramsey, Archbishop of Canterbury.[3]

In November 1989, Marina announced that she was pregnant by her boyfriend Paul Julian Mowatt, a freelance photographer. She claimed that her parents tried to pressure her into having an abortion or a shotgun wedding, and that they cut off her funds and disowned her when she refused.[4] She also said that she wrote a letter to the Queen, addressing her as "Dear Cousin Lilibet", asking her to intervene in the family dispute.[5] Marina's parents denied her allegations and said that they loved her, had not cut her off and that she was welcome at home any time.[6]

Marina married Paul Mowatt on 2 February 1990 at St Margaret's Church, Westminster, wearing a black dress and a white hat.[7] The wedding was attended by some members of the royal family, but not by the Queen or Prince Charles. They had two children: Zenouska May Mowatt (born on 26 May 1990) and Christian Alexander Mowatt (born on 4 March 1993).[8] Marina and Paul divorced on 15 October 1997 after seven years of marriage.[9]

Career and charity work

Marina has pursued a career in photography and has worked for several magazines and publications. She has also been involved in charity work, supporting causes such as the Children's Trust, the British Red Cross and the Royal National Institute of Blind People.[10]
