Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success is a non-fiction book by Carol Dweck, an American psychologist specializing in studying motivation and mindset. The book outlines how thinking creates the mental world and how people become optimists or pessimists. The book considers two basic attitudes inherent in people: the fixed mindset and growth mindset, how they shape personality.[1][2]

Synopsis

The book "Mindset" by psychologist Carol Dweck describes two main types of thinking, fixed mindset and growth mindset, how they are formed, and how they affect various aspects of a person's life, including goals, attitudes towards work and relationships, raising children, and realizing potential. The book explains how people who believe that their talents can be developed through hard work, the right strategies, and the contributions of others (have a growth mindset) achieve more than those who believe that intelligence is static, innate, and permanent and little can be done to change the ability (have a fixed mindset).[3]

Author

Carol Dweck is a Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professor of Psychology, Stanford University.[4]

She works in developmental psychology, social psychology, and personality psychology, and examines the self-conceptions people use to structure the self and guide their behavior.[5]

As a graduate student at Yale University, Dweck began studying animal motivation. Dweck wondered how people deal with it. "I asked, 'What makes a truly capable child give up in the face of failure when other children might be motivated by failure?' Subsequently, this led to an in-depth study of the mindset and its impact on various aspects of human life.[6]
