Nathalie Rayes
Nathalie Rayes (born c. 1975) is a Venezuelan activist and sociologist. During her activist career, she has served on the board of directors of organizations such as the Latino Victory Project, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Federación Hispana and Fundación Azteca América. In 2023, Rayes was nominated by the United States President Joe Biden as U.S. Ambassador to Croatia.

Childhood and education
Nathalie is originally from Anaco, Anzoátegui state. In 1984 her family moved to the United States when she was nine years old. She studied sociology and later obtained a master's degree in public policy, with a focus on international relations, at the University of California, Los Angeles.[1]
Career
In 1998 she was a State Department fellow at the U.S. Embassy in Egypt in Cairo in the economic policy section. She was deputy chief of staff to Los Angeles mayor James Hahn, as well as senior advisor to councilmember Mike Feuer. In Los Angeles, Rayes established the city's first Office of Immigrant Affairs.[2][3][4][5][6]
In her activist career, Nathalie has served as president of the Latino Victory Project and as a board member of Planned Parenthood Action Fund.,[7][8] as well as serving as Vice President of the Hispanic Federation and on the board of Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE), organizations focused on Latino outreach and access to sexual and reproductive health care. Nathalie has led Latino Power, an organization dedicated to defending the rights of immigrants in the United States, and has served on the board of directors of other non-governmental organizations and think tanks.[2][7] She has also been vice-president of public relations for Grupo Salinas and president of Fundación Azteca América.[3][5] [6]
In 2021, she was named among the "25 Most Powerful Latinas" in People en Español magazine.[7] and has been recognized by Huffington Post in the group "40 Under 40 Latinos in Foreign Policy" as one of the most influential Latina leaders in international policy.[1]
In 2023, Rayes was nominated by the United States President Joe Biden as U.S. Ambassador to Croatia.[3][5]
Personal life
Nathalie speaks both Spanish and English, and is conversationally fluent in Arabic.[1]
