Navana Group

Navana Group is a diversified Bangladeshi industrial conglomerate based in Dhaka. Navana Group comprises a number of companies, and has diversified its activities in various areas like product and project marketing, construction and real estate business, international trading, distributions and production of various items and already attained significance in the business arena of Bangladesh.[2]

Shafiul Islam Kamal is the chairman of Navana Group.[3] Saiful Islam Sumon is the Vice-Chairman of Navana Group.[4]

History

In 1996, Navana Group under Shafiul Islam Kamal as chairman emerged as a separate legal entity from Islam Group one year after the death of its Chairman Jahurul Islam (entrepreneur), older brother of Kamal, which was then the largest business group in Bangladesh.[2]

Navana Group established Navana furniture on 29 May 2002.[5]

In 2004, Navana Group launched Navana CNG Limited.[6] Navana Limited started import and selling of Hino Motors AK1J bus from Japan.[7]

In 2007, Judge Mohammad Azizul Haque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court ordered the confiscation of all properties of Saiful Islam Suman, a director of Navana Group, over the sale of a duty free car.[8] Navana Group handed over 2 million BDT to the relief fund of Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff General Moeen U Ahmed.[9]

In February, Aftab Auto shares rose significantly in value on the Dhaka Stock Exchange as rumors spread that Navana CNG would be listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.[10] In May, Navana CNG Limited applied for permission to directly list on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.[11] On 9 September 2009, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission began an investigation into the trades of Navana CNG, a subsidiary of Navana Group.[12]

Navana Group opened La Tarte on Gulshan Avenue near Gulshan One in July 2017.[4] Simplex-Navana joint venture constructed the second Dharla Bridge.[13]

In 2018, Navana Group sought to reschedule their outstanding loans which stood at 52.03 billion BDT from 30 different banks.[14] The group received a government bailout.[15] The government approved the request in 2020 and provided 5 billion BDT in additional working capital for the group to operate.[14]

In April 2021, Wahed Azizur Rahman was appointed CEO of Navana Group.[16] Navana Group won the Toyota Marketing Excellence Award from Toyota in 2021.[17] In 2022, Navana Group launched a 10 year business plan to recover from the financial crises of the group.[18] Aftab Automobiles Limited stopped manufacturing motorcycles in October 2022.[19] Navana Pharma received permission for an IPO from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission.[20]
