Partisan Records is a Brooklyn, NY based independent record label co-founded in 2007 by Tim Putnam and Ian Wheeler, with additional offices in London, Los Angeles and Berlin.

Partisan achieved early success releases such as War Elephant by Deer Tick in 2008 and Sylvan Esso’s self-titled debut in 2014, which has gone on to sell 379,000 equivalent copies in the US. In 2019 they earned a Grammy nomination for ‘Deran’ by Bombino, followed by two more nominations in 2021 for A Hero's Death by Fontaines D.C. and Song for Our Daughter by Laura Marling. In 2020 they also achieved a #1 UK album for Ultra Mono by Idles. Idles’ ‘Crawler’ was nominated for two Grammys in 2023 for Best Rock Album + Best Rock Performance. In 2021 Femi Kuti and Made Kuti’s 2021 joint double album ‘Legacy +’ was nominated for two Grammys (Global Music Album + Global Music Performance). Fontaines DC’s 2022 album Skinty Fia became the label’s second UK #1. Fontaines DC also won Best International Group at the 2023 Brit Awards.
Cigarettes After Sex’s 2017 debut album was certified gold in the US in January 2023. The record is also gold in France, Denmark, Poland, and gold in the UK.
In April 2023, Partisan announced the signing of PJ Harvey for her first independent label-released album since her 1992 debut, ‘Dry’.
In 2008, Partisan formed a strategic partnership with Knitting Factory Entertainment CEO Morgan Margolis. Together they’ve reissued the Fela Kuti catalog and revived their label, Knitting Factory Records, which also includes Grammy Award-nominated members of the Kuti family, Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti.
In 2022, Partisan launched a publishing arm, Left Music, alongside Craig Michie who serves as its president.
Putnam now serves as President of Partisan, and Wheeler manages The Talkhouse, which was co-founded with Putnam in 2015. Zena White serves as Partisan’s Chief Operating Officer, and Jeff Bell serves as Vice President.
