Patralekha Paul

Patralekha Paul (born 20 February 1990) known professionally as Patralekha is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi films. She made her acting debut with drama film CityLights (2014), for which she won the Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Female.[1][2][3]

Patralekha made her web debut with Bose: Dead/Alive (2017), receiving iReel Award for Best Actress (Drama) nomination. She has since appeared in the film Nanu Ki Jaanu (2018) and the web series, Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu (2021) and Aar Ya Paar (2022). Patralekha is married to actor Rajkummar Rao.[4]

Early life and education

Patralekha was born on 20 February 1990[5][6][7][8] in Shillong in a Bengali family, to a Chartered Accountant father and a homemaker mother Papri Paul. In an interview, she stated that her grandmother was a poet. She has two siblings Parnalekha Paul and Agnish Paul.[9] She went to The Assam Valley School, Assam, a boarding school and then graduated from the Bishop Cotton Girls' School, Bangalore.[10]

Patralekha's father wanted her to follow in his footsteps, but she was interested in acting.[11] While completing her graduation in Mumbai at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, she did a few commercials for Blackberry, and Tata Docomo, before getting a break in films.[12] Patralekhaa has also received formal training in Bharatnatyam.[8]

Career

Patralekha made her film debut in 2014 with a leading role in the drama CityLights, opposite Rajkummar Rao.[13] Made on a low budget, the film became a commercial success and earned her positive reviews from critics.[14][15] Hindustan Times noted, "Patralekha slip effortlessly into her role."[16]

Patralekha's next film in 2016, Love Games, was an urban-thriller.[6][17] It was a commercial failure.[18][19] In 2018, she played a ghost alongside Abhay Deol in Nanu Ki Jaanu.[20][21] It met with mixed reviews from critics.[22] Patralekha received praises for playing a surrogate mother in the 2019 film Badnaam Gali.[23][24]

Patralekha has expanded to the web world and has portrayed Nandini in Bose: Dead/Alive (2017), Prerna in Cheers (2018), a women in an arrange marriage in Forbidden Love (2020), an actress in Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu (2021) and a doctor in Aar Ya Paar (2022).[25][26][27][28]

Personal life

Patralekha has been in a relationship with actor Rajkummar Rao since 2010.[29][5] On 15 November 2021, Patralekha married Rao in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony,[30] at The Oberoi Sukhvilas Spa Resort in Chandigarh.[31]
