Rajesh Rajan
Rajesh Rajan (born 1979, Thiruvananthapuram) is an Indian born Kuwait-based cardiologist,[1][2] who serves as Chairman Board of Governors of the Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists.[3][4] Rajan has been responsible for a range of clinical research registries in heart failure, and has published extensively on the subject. He is an active member of several global cardiology forums and committees. Presently, he works at Sabah Al-Ahmad Cardiac Center, Al-Amiri Hospital, Kuwait.[5][6]
Early life and education
Rajesh Rajan was born in 1979 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala to Koodal Rajan A.V., a lawyer, and P.N Vasanthamma, a teacher. After completing his early schooling at Holy Angels, Adoor, he graduated in medicine from RUDN University in 2003, followed by a fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery from Bakulev Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery in 2005. He then obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology from Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and a Ph.D in cardiology from RUDN University. In 2013, Rajesh relocated to Kuwait and continued his research in heart failure and Cardio-Renal Anemia Syndrome. His academic achievements earned him fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians, UK & Ireland, European Society of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology, and American Heart Association. He also invented Rajan's heart failure risk score.[7][8][9][10]
Rajan and Kotevski proposed a new classification for single coronary artery (SCA): Rajan's and Kotevski's TYPE-IV (R-IV-C) modified Lipton's classification. It was defined as type-IV quadfurcation of a single coronary artery from the right aortic sinus. The Rajan's Heart Failure (R-hf) Risk Score devised by Rajan helps clinicians to estimate the risk in patients diagnosed with Heart Failure with reduced Ejection Fraction (HFrEF).[11]
Career
Rajesh Rajan is the Founder President & Chairman Board of Governors of the Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists.[12][13][14] representing the nation's clinical cardiologists to the federal government and providing commentaries on the role of cardiology in current events. He has also been participated in the Indo-Soviet Cardiology Research Project of KIMS Hospital and RUDN University.[15][16] His research has been featured in various medical journals. In addition, Rajan is currently the President of the Association of Indian Alumni of RUDN University as well as the Association of MD Physicians.[2]
Rajan, a hospital director in Kerala, India, is also the director of the Ayurvedic Center. Previously, he worked as a cardiologist at Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, and Ananthapuri Hospitals and Research Institute. He is also a charter president of the Rotary Club of Koodal. At present, he is the President of Association for the Promotion of Culture and Education (APEC) Kuwait in a professional capacity.[11][2]
Rajan is also the Founder and Managing Editor of the Journal "Annals of Clinical Cardiology" published by Wolters Kluwer, which serves as the official publication of the Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists.[2]
