Sanctuary is a 2022 American dark comedy thriller film directed by Zachary Wigon from a screenplay by Micah Bloomberg. It stars Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott.[2]

The heir to a hotel empire and the dominatrix who has primed him for success battle it out in a hotel room as he tries to end their relationship.[1]

Production

In September 2021, it was announced Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott had joined the cast of the film, with Zachary Wigon directing from a screenplay by Micah Bloomberg.[2] Principal photography took place in New York City.[4]

Release

Sanctuary had its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2022.[5] Shortly after, Super LTD, a division of Neon, acquired distribution rights to the film; however, it ended up being distributed under Neon.[6] The film also screened at Miami Dade College's 40th Annual Miami Film Festival on March 11, 2023, where it was nominated for the Knight Marimbas Award.[7]

It will have a limited theatrical release in the United States on May 19, 2023, then expand to wide release on May 25.[3] The trailer was released on April 12, 2023.[3]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 96%, based on 26 reviews, with an average rating of 8.2/10.[8]
