Sharif Zahir

Sharif Zahir is a commercially important person (CIP)[2] and Bangladeshi businessman.[1] He is one of the owners and the managing director of Ananta Group since 2000,[3] an apparel and fashion company based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is a prominent figure in the country's textile and garment industry.

Early life and education

Sharif Zahir was born in Noakhali District[1] and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His father, Humayun Zahir, was a businessman and the chairman[4] of Bangladesh's first private bank, United Commercial Bank (UCB). Sharif Zahir went abroad for higher studies. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin,[5] US in finance and economics.

Career

After completing his education, Zahir returned to Bangladesh and joined as managing director at their family business,[6][5] Ananta Group. The company was founded by his father, Humayun Zahir, in 1991.[6]

Sharif works closely with Sri Lankan consultants on quality assurance systems, training, structured incentive, and other programs.[7] Through his company, he presented the modern state production facilities and women's contribution, to International Monetary Fund (IMF) DMD Antoinette Monsio Sayeh and their high official team, which reflects how the government of Bangladesh supports entrepreneurs.[8]

He is a former director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA),[9][10] and an executive committee member of Bangladesh Economic Zone Investors Association (BEZIA).[11][12]

Zahir is responsible for all executive decisions of Ananta Group.[13] He signed Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) land for Ananta Group.[14][15] He took the initiative to build six industries in BEZA's new economic zone, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar in Mirsarai.[16]

He also signed with Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and invests 25 million USD.[17]

Zahir serves as the chairman of Vanguard Asset Management Ltd, and the vice chairman of National Finance Ltd also.[13][18]

Awards and recognition

Zahir has received awards and recognition for his contributions to the textile and garment industry in Bangladesh. The government of Bangladesh has recognized and awarded him numerous times as a commercially important person (CIP) by the Ministry of Commerce, as an exporter in the RMG industry.[2]
