In 6 years of running, they’ve actively trained over 5000 young secondary school girls and women with relevant skills to build or accelerate their career in tech.
History
She Code Africa was founded in 2016, by Ada Nduka Oyom[4]. She realised the gender gap in the technology industry, especially as it relates to African culture and decided to start an initiative documenting[5] the stories of African women in tech around her. The initiative grew into being a full-fledged community platform and then a non-profit organisation with the aim of getting more African girls and women into tech and helping those already in it, scale up. The goal of SCA is to create an environment that encourages young African women to grow successful tech careers, and ensure they are equally represented across all career roles and levels in technology.
She Code Africa has now grown into becoming the largest women in tech community in Africa, providing continuous membership support to over 22,000 African women, with 30+ local chapter presence in cities and campuses of more than 5 African countries.
Currently, SCA has successfully trained over 5000 women members through its Academy program, and in 2022 alone, reached 30,000 women through its community events, Scholarship Initiatives across 20 African countries.
Academy
She Code Africa has an academy where they organise training and bootcamps to help more young girls and women get into the technology industry. The Academy is one of the arms of She Code Africa.
They have the School of engineering, School of Products, School of Data and the School of Applied Skills. The school of engineering, school of products and school of Data runs different programs from Software engineering bootcamps, to Product management, Product designers, Data Science bootcamps which includes intensive and exclusive training sessions and workshops which run for months, providing young girls and women with the skills and knowledge needed to get into their desired roles in the technology industry.
There is also a yearly cloud school program[6], which hosts an 8-week intensive virtual bootcamp for African girls and women within the ages of 15 - 45 interested in building a career in Cloud Engineering. This is also under the School of Engineering umbrella.
Another school of Engineering program is the contributhon program[7] which is usually a 3 months intensive bootcamps that help train ladies interested in contributing to Open source projects.
Events
She Code Africa, regularly hosts events that are focused on empowering and getting more young girls and women into technology across cities and tertiary institutions in Africa[8].

Past events include the She Code Africa Summit. The Maiden edition was a hybrid event which was held in Lagos Nigeria in November 2022. This event recorded the presence of about 1000 ladies in attendance and 15+ speakers[9].
Another event is the She Code Africa Community Connect, a grassroot community event that kicked off with the Ghana Edition in April 2023 which is aimed at connecting with the ladies in different cities and countries where SCA is present. She Code Africa also runs different Chapters programs across their different chapters communities in countries they are present in.
Initiatives
She Code Africa has some initiatives in place to help their community members achieve their goals of getting a career in the technology industries[10]. They provide laptop scholarships[11], data scholarship, course scholarships and financial aid as the case may be to ladies and young girls from underprivileged communities or people who are unable to afford this[12].
Community
She Code Africa has a community of 22,000+ African women[13]. The community is hosted on slack. This community was created to help to improve networking and career opportunity for ladies[14], give access to resources, help more ladies get a career in tech to bridge the gender imbalance in the tech industry and also eradicate the stereotype and bias in the technology industry[15].
