This film is about the lives of people who reside near the Bangladesh-India border and operate as smugglers in that region. It revolves around the social and family life of people in the border areas of Bangladesh and various illegal things like politics, cross-border crime, smuggling, drug trafficking and other illegal trades on the border.[5][6]

A song from the movie was released, named Jaan Re.[7][8][9]

Pre-production started in August 2020.[10][11] Initially, it was planned to shoot in Kasba border of Bangladesh in September 2020, but it was shot in Dhaka, Dhamrai Upazila and Jessore from October 10, 2020. Filming was completed on 10 November with filming inside the studio. Saikat Nasir and Asad Zaman jointly wrote the story of the film. The main idea of the story is taken from Sudipta Saeed Khan.[10] Asad Zaman wrote the screenplay and dialogues based on the story. The film is produced by Maximum Entertainment.[12][10]

After the production, the film 'Border' was submitted to the Censor Board. After watching the movie, the Censor Board raised some objections, saying that the film was unfit to be shown. The Censor Board said that the film had some incoherent dialogues against the censor policy at many places. Apart from this, some objections were raised about the story of the movie. Later the movie was resubmitted after making some corrections from the production company. The name of the movie has also been changed. So, the name of the movie 'Border' is now 'Sultanpur'.[13][14][9]

"Sultanpur" was expected to be released in theatres in January 2022.[2][14] Sultanpur was planned for release on Netflix in March 2021.[15] In December 2022, the film received the clearance for exhibition.[13][14] The trailer of the movie was released on 15 May 2023.[7][16] Before that, a song called Jaan Re was released. It will release in theaters on June 2, 2023.[17][18][19][20]
