Koru (yacht)

Koru is a luxury custom superyacht owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. The vessel was built in the Netherlands by Oceanco starting in 2021, and delivered in April 2023.[3][4][5] It is a three-masted sailing yacht 127 meters (417 ft) long and reported to have cost $500 million or more.[6][7][8] When commissioned, the yacht was the second-largest sailing yacht in the world, after Andrey Melnichenko's Sailing Yacht A.

Koru and De Hef
The De Hef bridge

In 2022, Rotterdam announced that the city's historic De Hef bridge would be partially dismantled, temporarily, to allow the yacht to pass through. This move was very controversial because the bridge is a Dutch national monument owing to its long history.[9] In response to reports that this would happen in 2022 and criticism of this, Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb stated in February of that year that no permit had yet been applied for.[10] Later reports indicated that plans to temporarily remove a section of De Hef had been shelved, leaving it unclear how Koru was to be finished.[11] In the end, the partial dismantling of the 'De Hef' bridge proved to be unnecessary. The masts were mounted downstream of the bridge in the Rotterdam Harbour.[12]
