Yarmuk Rocket

The 4.8-inch HE Multi Barrel Rocket Launched YARMUK, or simply Yarmuk, is a 4.8 in (122 mm) unguided surface-to-surface rocket developed by the Pakistan Ordnance Factories.[1][2][3][4]

The rocket is named after the Yarmouk River, which is in Syria.

Design and performance

The 122 mm calibre Yarmuk rockets are designed to be fired from the KRL-122 "Ghazab" MLRS rocket artillery systems.[5] The rockets are fitted with Composition B explosive warheads which deal explosive and fragmentation damage that are effective against Infantry and lightly armoured targets. Moreover, the rockets have a max time of flight of 78 seconds with 400 m/s muzzle velocity, enabling them to reach a max range of 20 km.[2][1]

The Yarmuk rockets have been deployed at a wide range of fields by the Pakistan Army. In one instance, they were seen being fired from KRL-122s in Exercise Azm-e-Nau during a threat of an Indian invasion.[6]

In February 2023, reports surfaced that Pakistan had sent around 10,000 122mm Grad missiles to Ukraine via 3rd party country.[7] On March 26, 2023 the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces posted an image on Facebook showing Ukrainian servicemen loading Yarmuk rockets thus confirming the reports.[8][9][10]
