Barbara Ehrenreich (/ˈɛərənraɪk/, AIR-ən-rike;[1] née Alexander; August 26, 1941 – September 1, 2022) was an American writer and political activist. She was a well known person in the Democratic Socialists of America movement. Ehrenreich was best known for her 2001 book Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America.

Ehrenreich died on September 1, 2022 under hospice care in Alexandria, Virginia from a stroke, six days after her 81st birthday.[2]
