Battle of the Trebia

The Battle of the Trebia (or Trebbia) was the first major battle of the Second Punic War, fought between the Carthaginian forces of Hannibal and the Roman Republic in December of 218 BC, on or around the winter solstice.

Results

The Carthaginian forces of Hannibal defeated the Roman army under Tiberius Sempronius Longus on the banks of the Trebbia River.

A mere 4,000-5,000 Carthaginian soldiers fell during the conflict, a major difference from the Roman's 26-32,000 causalities for the Romans.
