Cirkus is a remake of the 1982 Hindi film Angoor which itself was based on William Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors.[8][9] Principal photography for the film began in November 2020 at Mumbai and also took place in Ooty.[10]
The film was theatrically released on 23 December 2022.[11] Panned by critics, the film underperformed at the box office and went on to become one of the biggest commercial failures of 2022.[12]
