He served as mayor of Fargo, North Dakota. He was elected to a four-year term on June 13, 2006 and took office on June 28, 2006. He was re-elected twice during municipal elections held on June 8, 2010 and June 10, 2014. [1]

Walaker was born in Fargo in 1941 and died on December 2, 2014, at the age of 73, from kidney cancer.[2]
