Massacre at Huế

During the Vietnam War, the Viet Cong, and the army of North Vietnam killed many people. In 1968. during the battle of Hué, there was the massacre of Hué. The massacre lasted for 28 days. It was done in the context of the Battle of Hué. The North Vietnamese killed civilians, because they thought the civilians were against Communism. Depending on the sources between 2.800 and 6.000 people were killed. The main focus was religious leaders, and foreigners. Before being killed, many were tortured. Some were buried alive. Some of the victims were children. It has been suggested, that as there were U.S. air raids during the battle of Hué, some victims may have been killedduring these raids. Today, most people see this massacre as a war crime. There are contemporary sources, but they have the problem that they are not neutral. For this reason, historians are still discussing the details and importance of the event.
