John McConnell

John McConnell (March 22, 1915[1] – October 20, 2012[2]) was an American peace activist. He was the founder and creator of Earth Day. McConnell is a luminary with a major passion for peace, religion and environmentalism. In 1969 at the UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, John McConnell felt it necessary to propose a holiday in which we celebrate the Earth's life and beauty.
