History

According to legend, Emperor Jimmu was enthroned at Kahihara.[1]

Fujiwara-kyō was the ancient capital of Japan from the year 694 to 710.[1]

The modern city was established in 1956.

Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe died here after being shot in Nara during a campaign speech on 8 July 2022.
